Very high nitrates and nitrites during cycling [INC-AGR-001]

Discovery date : 01/08/2019
Criticality : high
Impact : greenhouses deployed before September 2019
Incident description :
The concentration of nitrates and nitrites remains very high for several consecutive months during the cycling period.
Cause : the recommendations for adding ammonium sulfate were too high.
Resolution : drain 50% of the water from the tanks into the growing mounds or into the garden. Top up with reverse osmosis water, rainwater or mains water.

Presence of larvae and maggots in the filtration system [INC-AGR-002]

Discovery date : 14/01/2020
Criticality : medium
Incident description :
Larvae, worms or maggots have proliferated in the screen and/or the filter.
Cause : Insects laid their eggs in the filter, or the eggs were present in the plants.
Resolution : Clean the filter and the screen. Run the screen for 3 to 4h until the population disappears.

Leafy vegetables too thin and fragile. Heads that bolt [INC-AGR-003]

Discovery date : 14/01/2019
Criticality : medium
Incident description :
After harvest, lettuce leaves wilt quickly. Very little firmness.
Cause : Use of varieties not well suited to the season. Lack of supplements, water acidity not optimal.
Resolution : Start crops suitable for the season (batavia, analota, open-field lettuce in the summer season. Salanova, chicory, rocket, lamb's lettuce in the cool season). Check the pH on the hub.

Zucchinis failing to develop [INC-AGR-004]

Discovery date : 01/01/2018
Criticality : medium
Incident description :
Zucchini rotting at the tip in the early stages of development.
Cause : Absence of pollination by a male flower.
Resolution : Start by collecting pollen from the male flower either with a cotton swab, with your finger, or simply by cutting the flower to expose the stamen. Then rub the cotton swab, or directly the male stamen, against the pistil of the female flower. This will pollinate it with the collected pollen. A single male flower can pollinate several female flowers.

Significant fish mortality (1/2) [INC-AGR-005]

Discovery date : 15/10/2021
Criticality : high
Incident description : several successive fish deaths in less than 1 week. The fish have a normal appearance (no spots, no discolouration, and no body deformities).
Several possible causes:

  1. The amounts of supplements added to the water are higher than the recommendations
  2. The fish do not eat all the food distributed; it accumulates and poisons the fish
Resolutions: move all the fish into the tank that contains neither the filter nor the pump, check oxygenation (air pump / aerator), check the water parameters (KH and pH), space out the addition of supplements over time. Replace half of the water in the tanks.

Significant fish mortality (2/2) [INC-AGR-006]

Discovery date : 15/10/2021
Criticality : high
Incident description :

Several successive fish deaths in less than 1 week. The fish have an abnormal appearance: spots/discolouration of the scales/swelling of the eyes/appearance of bumps. Remove the dead fish with the net. If you need to handle them manually, use gloves.

Cause: the water has bacterial/microbial contamination.
Resolution:

  • Have the water tested in a specialist shop. It is also possible to have the dead fish analyzed.
  • Isolate the remaining fish with the net in an auxiliary tank, adding salt, 3g/l of water, and the Homeocid and Immunogen products, which act against bacterial proliferation. This article gives you the information you need on how to use these products.
  • Carry out a complete cleaning of the tanks and the filter, with gloves. Choose disinfectants that are non-toxic to fish, such as hydrogen peroxide or diluted vinegar, for the tank walls and filters. Rinse these items well with water before putting them back in place to avoid residues of these disinfectants.
  • Check that the UV lamp is working properly; if in doubt, do not hesitate to replace it. Restart the system with the UV lamp operating.

Change in potassium sulfate format [INC-AGR-007]

Discovery date : 25/08/2024
Criticality : low
Incident description : Potassium sulfate does not dissolve.
Cause: Potassium sulfate now comes in granule form and no longer in salt form.
Resolution: You can still mix potassium sulfate with iron chelate, micronutrients and magnesium sulfate. Even with the addition of hot water, potassium sulfate will not dissolve. You can still add all the salts to the tanks. Potassium sulfate will dissolve over time.
