When?

Has your cycling been underway for at least 2 weeks, and does your strip test indicate the presence of nitrates and/or nitrites in your fish tank water? It is time to plant your towers.

You do not have to wait until the end of the cycling process to introduce your plants! On the contrary, introducing them as soon as nitrates appear will help speed up cycling. Plants feed on the nitrates in the water.

📘

Why plant now?

  • If you are in bioponics: now is the time to start planting in your growing towers. You do not need to wait until the end of the cycling process to add plants and start your home food production.

  • If you are in aquaponics: planting in your growing towers helps speed up cycling. The plants will take up NO3- nitrates, and the amount of nitrites in the water can then decrease until they disappear completely. Plants also compete with any algae that could potentially form.

To grow, plants need light, warmth and nutrients. The water in your fish tanks must be enriched regularly with nutrients to meet plant needs.

🚧

Do not forget to add supplements to the water as soon as you plant

  • If you are in bioponics: see our recommendations for adding GROW and Bloom according to the season

  • If you are in aquaponics: see our recommendations for adding supplements according to the season.

  • At the same time, continue managing the pH: even after planting, you can add pH down or potassium bicarbonate.

Planting tips

To help you organize your planting, you have access to the Calendar tab in the hub.

You can plant your own seedlings once they are mature, about 3 to 8 weeks later. Feel free to consult our dedicated pages for Starting your seedlings and Preparing your seedlings with the LED seed propagator.
